According to the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Registry, 22-year-old Amarion Sanders was duly released after a jury found him not guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Sanders was charged in October 2023 and his attorney filed a self-defense motion in his case in March.

On June 24, before the case went to trial, Sanders was “inadvertently released from the county jail.”

“Although this is an isolated incident, we will work together to correct the incident, investigate it thoroughly and ensure that it never happens again,” O’Donnell said in June.

According to a county spokesman, he was arrested by U.S. Marshals and taken back into custody on June 26.

County officials said a typo in the court allowed the 22-year-old to be released. Sanders was released around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24, and the error wasn’t noticed until the next morning.
