Senator Mark Kelly defends Governor Walz and criticizes Trump …

Arizona Senator Mark Kelly recently spoke at a campaign rally for Vice President Kamala Harris in Glendale, Arizona, where he defended Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s military career. Kelly, a retired Navy pilot and astronaut, praised Walz’s years of service in the Minnesota Army National Guard and emphasized how Walz’s military experience has positively influenced his work in politics.

Kelly praised Walz for his commitment to supporting soldiers, veterans and military families and emphasized how important Walz’s military background has been to his political efforts.

During his speech, Kelly took aim at former President Donald Trump, accusing him of being disrespectful to military members. Kelly pointed to previous reports that Trump had made derogatory remarks about military members, calling them “suckers and losers.” Kelly stressed that in Arizona, individuals are valued and thanked for their service to the country, not attacked.

Notably, Kelly did not mention that he himself had previously been considered as a possible running mate for Vice President Harris. Instead, he focused on endorsing Harris as a capable leader for the future of the nation, highlighting her commitment to issues such as lowering child care costs, protecting reproductive rights and combating gun violence.

Also speaking at the rally, Kelly’s wife, former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords, who survived a shooting in 2011, shared her view on the importance of persistence and collective action to create meaningful change. Giffords stressed that progress takes time and urged unity to move forward together toward a better future.

The event highlighted the intersection of military service, political leadership and social engagement, with Kelly and Giffords delivering a message of unity and resilience in the face of challenges.
