The list, the fourth in a nine-part series released Wednesday night by NHL Network host Jamie Hersch and analyst Steve Konroyd, includes six Norris Trophy winners, seven Stanley Cup winners, eight All-Rookie Team nominees and 27 All-Star nominees.

  20. Mo SeiderDetroit Red Wings

Here’s what the NHL Network had to say about Seider, Detroit’s top defenseman:

“Seider has not missed a single game in his three NHL seasons. Last season he scored 42 points (nine goals, 33 assists) and 17 power play points. He also led Detroit in ice time per game (22:22) for the third consecutive season. The 23-year-old was also the only player to record at least 200 hits (211) and 200 blocks (212) last season. Seider won the Calder Trophy as the 2021-22 NHL Rookie of the Year.”

His Red Wings teammate Dylan Larkin was ranked 15th in the top 20 centers by the NHL Network last week.

The NHL Network also asked, “Who are the best defensemen in the NHL entering the 2024-25 season?”

Simon Edvinsson from Detroit was considered one of the top candidates.

“Keep an eye on Edvinsson, the No. 6 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He’s spent most of the last two seasons hiding out in the American Hockey League, where the Red Wings let him develop with Grand Rapids. He’s played 25 NHL games and shown only glimpses of his talent at the highest level. But he’s 21. He’s got size (6’6″, 200 lbs) and skill, and if he puts it all together, he could be at least a little bit like Victor Hedman.”

Hawks goalkeeper Brossoit out due to injury

Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit will miss the start of training camp as he recovers from surgery on his right knee.

Brossoit underwent meniscus surgery in Chicago on Tuesday. Team doctor Michael Terry said Wednesday that Brossoit is expected to return in five to seven weeks.

The Blackhawks’ training camp begins in mid-September. On October 8th they will visit Utah for the season opener.

Brossoit, 31, signed a two-year, $3.3 million salary-cap deal with Chicago on July 1. He will partner former Red Wing Petr Mrazek in goal this season.

Brossoit played 23 games for Winnipeg last season, posting a 15-5-2 record, a 2.00 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.

Brossoit, a sixth-round pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, has a 64-46-13 record with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in 140 career games. He has also played for Edmonton and Vegas.
