Secret hiding places of sneaky streamers revealed: Half of all Brits hide in the toilet to check sports results

Not even a wedding can stop Brits from checking football results, a new study shows.

A sports-mad nation, half of Brits admit to hiding in the toilet during an event to check the score, and one in ten admit to sneaking away from a wedding to watch a final.

In just six months, fans have watched almost a billion hours of sport on Sky and Sky Mobile’s new survey of 2,000 adults shows the extraordinary lengths sports fans are willing to go to not miss a thing.

And work doesn’t get in the way either: almost four in ten (38%) admit to catching a glimpse of it during work, and 20% watch up to five hours a week during work.

But that’s not all: when scheduling conflicts occur, one in three Britons (30%) even cancel meetings or miss important appointments to watch their favorite sport.

The nation’s love of sport comes at a price, with over a third (36%) admitting they use all their mobile data to stream sports. Now, lucky Sky Mobile customers can stream Sky apps and watch sports without using up their data allowance.

Ahead of the new Premier League season, half (49%) of sports fans admit they have tried to cancel their summer plans to watch live sporting events. One in ten are even willing to skip a friend’s wedding or a meeting at their child’s school to watch a big game. We even have a list of excuses, from feigning illness to working overtime to a family emergency, so we can watch a game.

Brits have also admitted to resorting to extreme tactics to avoid giving away important match results before they can catch up, such as avoiding social media (45%), going off the internet altogether (36%) or even leaving group chats (12%).

Amber Pine of Sky Connectivity said: “We’re a nation of sports lovers and many Brits stream sports on the go. Our research has shown that big football matches lead to a 13% increase in mobile data usage, so at Sky Mobile we don’t want fans to miss a moment. That’s why customers can stream all Sky apps, including Sky Sports and Sky Go, without using up their data allowance.”
