YMCA Flag Football
Registration for the Vicksburg YMCA youth flag football season is now open.

The league is for players ages 5 to 12 and is divided into three age groups. The season runs from September 16 to October 24, with games being held at Key City Park (formerly Sports Force Parks). The registration fee is $65 for YMCA members and $85 for non-members.

Coaches and referees are also needed. Games are played on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Key City Park (formerly Sports Force Parks). Experienced referees are paid $15 to $20 per game.

Tickets for the Red Carpet Bowl
Tickets for the 62nd annual Red Carpet Bowl Classic football games on August 30 are now on sale.

Vicksburg High will play Holmes County Central and Warren Central will face Clinton. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Vicksburg’s Memorial Stadium and Warren Central’s Viking Stadium, respectively.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at GoFan.co by searching for “Red Carpet Bowl Classic.”

Fans are also encouraged to review the Vicksburg Warren School District’s new clear bag policy before attending games this season.

Climbing at Camp Tanglewood
The 2nd Annual Camp Tanglewood Scramble Golf Tournament will be held on September 6th at Clear Creek Golf Course. The entry fee for the foursome scramble is $400 per team and cash prizes of up to $1,500 will be awarded to the winning team.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit Unlimited Outdoors, a nonprofit organization that offers hunting trips and outdoor experiences for children and adults with special needs.

Strike Out softball tournament on child abuse
The sixth annual Strike Out Child Abuse charity softball tournament is scheduled for September 14 and 15 at Halls Ferry Park in Vicksburg.

The two-day youth tournament is for Class C teams in age groups 8U through 18U. Entry fees are $75 for the 8U class and $150 for all other classes, plus a $45 referee fee. Spectator entry fees are $10 at the gate.

Hinds Baseball Showcase
Hinds Community College will host its Fall Baseball Showcase on September 22 at Joe G. Moss Field on the Raymond campus.

The showcase is open to players in grades 9 through 12 who want to showcase their talent in front of coaches from Hinds and other junior colleges and universities.

The show begins at noon and runs until the end. Check-in/registration begins at 11 a.m. The cost is $100 per player, cash or check only. No payments will be accepted until the day of the show, but players are asked to download and complete a registration form from sports.hindscc.edu to expedite the process.

Armadillo Classic
The Armadillo Classic golf tournament will be held on September 20th at Clear Creek Golf Course. The two-person scramble has a $200 entry fee and offers cash prizes of up to $1,000 for the winning team. Other prizes will also be awarded.

Registration begins at 11am on tournament day, the tournament starts at 1pm.
Proceeds from the tournament will benefit G6:2 Outdoors, a nonprofit organization that offers hunting trips and outdoor experiences for children and adults with special needs.

Greenies Golf Tournament
The fourth annual Greenies Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on September 26th at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., with gunfire at 9 a.m. The entry fee for the four-man scramble is $70 per player, with mulligans available for $5 each. The entry fee is due at registration and can only be paid in cash.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place finishers in each flight, as well as for finishes closest to the pin on all par 3s and closest to the center line on two other holes.

Across the river
Registration is now open for the 36th Annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and footrace across the Old Mississippi River Bridge. The race is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, at 8 a.m.

Entry fees are $30 for the 5-mile race and $15 for the 1-mile fun run. After September 15, entry fees increase to $35 and $20, respectively. The race day fee for the 5-mile race is $40.

Race documents can be picked up on October 11 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the SCHF Auditorium on the corner of Crawford and Cherry Streets and on the morning of the race at the race site.

Sponsors are also available and volunteers are sought to help with the event. The Over the River Run is a fundraiser for the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation and helps with building maintenance and numerous community programs.

World Cup Night of Champions
Warren Central will host the Viking Football Night of Champions on Friday, October 25th. The event is a celebration of Warren Central football’s 60th anniversary and all former players, managers and coaches are welcome to attend. There is a $20 registration fee which benefits the football program.

The event includes a tailgate party and social hour at 5 p.m., a pregame honors and group photo at 6:40 p.m., and honoring the 1970s Little Dixie Conference teams and the 1988 and 1994 MHSAA Class 5A state championship teams at halftime.
