San Bernardino County Veterans Diploma Project accepts applications – San Bernardino Sun

The San Bernardino County Board of Education, in collaboration with the San Bernardino County Department of Veterans Affairs, is accepting applications for its 16th annual Operation Recognition Veterans Diploma Project.

The annual ceremony awards diplomas to eligible individuals whose high school education was interrupted due to military service or internment in a Japanese American camp.

The project provides veterans and internees with the opportunity to earn a high school diploma as required by California Education Law. Since 2009, nearly 300 San Bernardino County veterans have been honored and recognized through the project, according to a press release.

Veterans who served in World War II, the Korean War, or the Vietnam War and were honorably discharged, as well as those who were interned in a Japanese-American relocation camp, are eligible. Surviving family members of individuals who meet these requirements are also encouraged to apply for posthumous recognition.

To qualify, applicants must be current residents of San Bernardino County and have been enrolled in high school prior to draft or internment.

To be considered for this year’s award, applications must be submitted by October 14. Applicants will be notified of their status by October 18 and qualified applicants will receive ceremony details. Attendance is free.

Applications are available at vdp.sbcss.k12.ca.us.
