Saints’ Derek Carr shares his ‘old man moment’ with Jake Haener | Saints

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is by far the most experienced man in the Saints quarterback room, and the age difference is noticeable in several ways.

Second-year pro Jake Haener, 25, and Spencer Rattler, 23, are vying to be the 33-year-old Carr’s backup in the 2024 season.

During Sunday’s preseason game between the Saints and the 49ers, Carr took the opportunity to taunt the younger quarterbacks on Fox about the “old man moment” he had with the other two quarterbacks.

“When neither of them had seen the movie ‘Major League,’ I thought, ‘This has got to be a joke.’ They hadn’t seen the other movie, ‘Against All Odds.’ I blame myself. I have to teach them.”

Carr made the bold accusation at practice earlier this week that Haener had not seen “Against All Rules,” but Haener defended himself against his teammate’s advance.

“He’s lying. I think Denzel (Washington) is the greatest actor of all time,” Haener said. “If I hadn’t seen that movie, I wouldn’t know who Denzel is playing. He’s the head coach. That’s all I know.”

Aside from his jokes, Carr also praised Haener and Rattler.

“They’re both fantastic players and both even better people,” Carr said. “They’ve been fantastic. They ask questions. They just want to learn, they just want to grow and they’re both going to be in this league for a long time and I’m just happy to be in the same room with them and help them.”
