Ryu Soo Young shines in SBS’ new series “Jungle Bob” and presents Korean cuisine in remote jungles

Ryu Soo Young shines in new SBS Variety Show ‘Jungle Bob‘ brings a fresh interpretation of Korean cuisine to remote jungles.

Ryu Soo Young, known as “Chef Ryu,” shows his commitment to Korean cuisine in the new SBS variety show “Jungle Bob,” offering a distinctly different entertainment experience than Kim Byung Man’s long-running show “The Law of the Jungle‘.

“Jungle Bob” is a food culture exchange program in which Ryu Soo Young, known as the “K-Homestyle Master,” cooks Korean dishes with Lee Seung Yoon, Seo In Guk, and Uee using local ingredients found in remote jungles. After traveling through the KBS2 Variety Show ‘Fun-Staurant“Ryu Soo Young’s ability to recreate familiar Korean dishes with unfamiliar ingredients in these remote locations is a central highlight of the show.”

Given the long-standing popularity of “Law of the Jungle,” in which Kim Byung Man and various celebrities survive in remote jungles, there were high expectations about how “Jungle Food” would differ from other series. Controversy arose when Kim Byung Man claimed that “Jungle Bob” was based on his own idea, which increased the excitement ahead of the show’s premiere.

Since its debut, however, “Jungle Bob” has been praised for its focus on “cooking Korean dishes using local ingredients” and offers a jungle experience that is quite different from that of “The Law of the Jungle.”As the production team explained, the core of the show lies in the interactions between the cast and the locals they encounter in the jungle, as well as the reactions of the locals when they try Korean food.

In the first episode, Ryu Soo Young’s genuine passion for Korean food was evident. Although he was exhausted after a 22-hour journey to Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, he immediately showed interest in the local cuisine and ingredients available in the area.

In the second episode, Ryu Soo Young interacted with many local women in the jungle kitchen and prepared dishes with local ingredients such as cassava, using coconuts. He humorously commented: “I feel like a superstar in the kitchen,” and created a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. He also showed his characteristic kindness by preparing individual meals for children, thus showcasing his warm and caring personality.

Cultural critic Ha Jae Geun commented: “Ryu Soo Young, who gained popularity through “Fun-Staurant” due to his charming personality, is enjoying a huge following in “Jungle Bob.” His cooking skills and caring nature are on full display in the jungle, which adds to his charm. As his charm becomes even more prominent through “Jungle Bob,” he is likely to attract even more attention.

“Law of the Jungle,” which first aired in 2011, became SBS’ flagship wilderness series with several seasons. There is already speculation as to whether Ryu Soo Young’s “Jungle Bob” will also be produced as a season.

An SBS representative said: “It’s too early to say if Jungle Bob will continue as a season series, but the possibility still exists. We hope that viewers continue to show interest and enthusiasm for the show.
