RV fire spreads to half an acre of brush and trees off Highway 126 in Redmond; vape pen charging apparent cause

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) — A mobile home was destroyed in a fire Thursday morning that was traced to a rechargeable e-cigarette pen. The blaze spread to about half an acre of brush and trees off Highway 126 on Redmond’s east side before emergency crews were able to stop and contain it.

The resident, who was not in the RV at the time, said he was charging an e-cigarette, which was the most likely cause of the fire, according to firefighter Tom Mooney of Redmond Fire & Rescue.

The fire was reported around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday. The spread was stopped after about 20 minutes and it took about half an hour for the fire to be fully contained, Mooney said.

No injuries were reported in the fire on the site of the former Redmond Rod & Gun Club north of Highway 126, the future site of the CORE 3 interagency emergency coordination center and training center.

The fire safety officer noted: “Despite the cooler weather recently, it is still super dry.”
