Battle

  • According to the AFP news agency, explosions occurred in central and eastern Kyiv on Saturday night after the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian missiles were heading towards the city.
  • A 35-year-old man and his four-year-old son were killed in the nighttime attack in the Brovary district near the Ukrainian capital, emergency services said. Three other people, including a child, were seriously injured.
  • The Defense Ministry in Moscow said its forces had destroyed 14 drones and four missiles fired from Ukraine over Kursk, the Russian region where Ukrainian troops are trying to gain a foothold following last week’s cross-border incursion.
  • More than 76,000 people have been evacuated from the border region. Russia is trying to contain the incursion and has launched “anti-terrorist operations” in the nearby regions of Belgorod and Bryansk, as well as in Kursk.
  • Ukraine said it had evacuated 20,000 people amid increasing fighting in the Sumy region, which lies across the border from Kursk.
