Rumor: Hasbro’s GI Joe Snake Eyes game is an open world, possibly even a sandbox

We know which GI Joe Snake Eyes game? But there are enough reasons to be really excited about this one.

We now have some new information about what we can look forward to at the upcoming GI Joe Snake Eyes Game.

OK, but at this point you may be wondering what GI Joe Snake Eyes Game? This game was actually announced back in 2022 in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. GamesIndustry.biz interviewed industry veteran Ames Kirchen, who leads the title as Creative Director and is Studio GM for Atomic Arcade.

Kirchen was involved in the production of many of WB Games’ biggest DC Comics-related games in the 2000s, including Batman: Arkham, injusticeAnd Lego‘s DC Comics games. He joined Wizards of the Coast, which has been owned by Hasbro since 1999, in 2020. In that role, he helped develop Dungeons & Dragons-themed video games. Hasbro eventually decided to expand WOTC’s gaming division to develop games for their other properties. In that role, Kirchen was allowed to start his own studio in Atomic Arcade.

Kirchen revealed in the 2022 interview that the GI Joe Snake Eyes game was his idea. He found Hasbro receptive, but they were also concerned about the notoriously bad reputation of licensed games. Hasbro’s hesitation in making GI Joe games is pretty well known – there is literally a 17-year gap between GI Joe – The Rise of Cobra‘s spinoff game, and the GI Joe – The Movie rail shooter that Konami made for the NES. Kirchen convinced Hasbro about this new game and building a new studio for it by convincing them that they could appeal to the now older GI Joe fans who grew up A true American hero. He then proposed a completely original project to them.

There is some new information about the GI Joe Snake Eyes game. As user Lonelyfades shared on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, there is a new job posting for this game on Hasbro’s website. The job posting says of the game and Atomic Arcade itself:

“Atomic Arcade is a brand new video game development studio in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area, led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing our development team with outstanding talent to create our first cross-platform AAA game – a bold and contemporary reimagining of the GI JOE universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only create an outstanding AAA experience, but also lay the foundations for the studio and team to build upon. We are proud to be part of Wizards of the Coast, a division of Hasbro.

We are looking for a passionate, experienced and team-oriented World/Level Designer to help us build an outstanding AAA third-person action/adventure game.”

In another section of the job posting, Hasbro says applicants with “experience working on open-world and/or sandbox projects” will receive extra points.

While it is a little shocking that players have clearly forgotten that this game was even in the works, we should definitely pay attention now. Even though Atomic Arcade is an unproven asset, it brings GI Joe – The Movie Integrating IP directly into an open world and perhaps even an open sandbox game is a bold move that shows ambition. And if Kirchen has helped, Batman: Arkham Asylums potential, who’s to say he couldn’t achieve similar success under license with this new game? Hopefully Hasbro will have the sense to share more about this project soon.
