Rory McIlroy and his father Gerry will return to the Old Course at St. Andrews in October for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

One of the most prestigious events on the DP World Tour, the Alfred Dunhill Links is inspired by the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Alongside St. Andrews, Carnoustie Golf Links and Kingsbarns Golf Links host this event every year. The focus is to welcome some of the best players in the world to the “Home of Golf”. The entire field plays 18 holes on each course before a 54-hole cut is made after the third round. The top 60 professionals and the top 20 Pro-Am teams qualify for the final round, which always takes place on the Old Course.

Like the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, numerous celebrities and well-known personalities play alongside the pros at the Dunhill Links each year. Justin Timberlake, Michael Phelps and Samuel L. Jackson have all competed, as has Yasir al-Rumayyan, the governor of the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), who played at the Dunhill Links last year.

McIlroy, meanwhile, missed the 2023 edition, which was won by Matt Fitzpatrick. Due to torrential rain, the tournament was also shortened to 54 holes last year.

McIlroy last competed in this event in 2022, when he finished fourth, two strokes behind winner Ryan Fox. McIlroy has never won the Dunhill Links, but he has a strong record in the event, having six top-10 finishes in nine appearances. McIlroy also has two second-place finishes, most recently in 2014 – the same year as his last triumph in a major championship tournament.
