Editor’s Note: NBC Chicago offers a live feed of the evening and primetime speeches every Monday through Thursday in the player above and on the 24/7 streaming channel NBC 5 Chicago News.

The 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago will not only feature Democratic speakers. In fact, a number of prominent Republicans will also take the podium this week, organizers announced.

While some of the Democrats’ most prominent figures, including former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, will speak on the second day of the convention, another name on the speaker list caused a stir on Tuesday.

Harris on Tuesday announced a number of Republicans who will speak at the convention, including former U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, and former Trump White House staffers Olivia Troye and Stephanie Grisham, all three of whom have since become Trump critics.

John Giles, mayor of Mesa, Arizona, is also scheduled to speak on Tuesday, officials confirmed Tuesday.

Grisham said she knows Harris will “defend our freedoms and represent our nation with honesty and integrity.”

“I never thought I would be speaking at a Democratic National Convention,” she said in a statement. “But after seeing firsthand who Donald Trump really is and the threat he poses to our country, I feel strongly about speaking out.”

Kinzinger, who served six terms in Congress, did not seek re-election in 2022 after voting to impeach Trump following the riots at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. He is currently involved in a number of projects, including the recent launch of the Republicans for Harris coalition.

Except for Giles, the timing of the speeches has not yet been announced.

The “main program,” or speeches, are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, a delay from the previously announced start time of 6 p.m. Organizers said the change was made to “ensure we stay on schedule.”

Organizers noted that there would likely be further changes to the schedule on Tuesday after Monday’s event required “real-time adjustments” and some speeches and appearances had to be canceled to accommodate Biden’s highly anticipated speech after the delays.

The Obamas are expected to headline the second night of the convention, a day after the unofficial farewell to Biden, who served as Obama’s vice president for eight years. Biden will not be in the hall to watch his former running mate’s speech, having left Chicago after his own speech.

Some of the Democratic Party’s biggest stars will also be in attendance and speaking, including Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, Senator Bernie Sanders and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

Other speeches expected on Tuesday include those from U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Tammy Duckworth and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

According to the organizers, the theme for Tuesday is “A bold vision for America’s future.”
