Rapterra Rising at Kings Dominion

Rapterra Rising at Kings Dominion

On July 31, Kings Dominion announced the park’s newest roller coaster: Rapterra, a wing coaster by Swiss roller coaster designers Bolliger & Mabillard. Located in the “Jungle X-Pedition” area of the park, Rapterra will be the third roller coaster in this area of the park, joining Tumbili and Reptilian.

The coaster is scheduled to open in spring 2025, but construction is already well underway. During a visit to the park last weekend, we pulled out our cameras and “set our eyes on the sky” to capture Rapterra’s ascent.

Note: All photos were taken in guest areas without climbing over construction fences or looking over them. Don’t be that person, just keep your eyes on the sky and there will be plenty to see.

Themed signs were posted throughout the Jungle X area to announce the construction of the new roller coaster.

As we entered Jungle-X, we were greeted by the edge of this steep section. The number of people coming into this area thinking the coaster was open was a little disconcerting.

The Wing Over will be the first roller coaster element that riders experience after the launch of Rapterra.

The new roller coaster tracks just have that certain something!

Volcano’s former queue building has been converted into a “research center” by the Whey Foundation.

It’s amazing how much this roller coaster will change the footprint of the Jungle X-Pedition.

I expect this will be a popular photo spot!

We can imagine that this driver on Reptilian was as excited about Rapterra’s design as we were!

Some of the supports for Rapterra are still in “shipping boxes”.
