Purdue welcomes basketball team in charity show


OMAHA, Nebraska. – The Creighton men’s basketball team will host a charity preseason game against Purdue on Saturday, October 26 at 7 p.m. Central Time.th. Net proceeds from the game will benefit the United Way of the Midlands Disaster Relief Fund.

The game is not part of Creighton’s 2024-25 season ticket package, but will begin at 10 a.m. on August 19.thBluejay season ticket holders renewing for 2024-25 will have one week to purchase their regular seats before the event goes on general sale at 10 a.m. on August 26.th through Ticketmaster.com and the CHI Health Center Omaha box office. Season ticket holders can view their ticket invoice on their MyCreighton account(s) at https://am.ticketmaster.com/creighton/.

Broadcast details will be announced at a later date.

“We are very excited to host Purdue for a friendly match,” said Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. “After a trip to the national title game, Coach Painter will once again have one of the best teams in the country. It will be a tremendous opportunity for us to compete against quality competition while preparing for a premier non-conference schedule and the always difficult BIG EAST. I can’t thank Coach Painter enough for bringing his team to Omaha. It’s a unique event that our fans will truly enjoy while supporting the United Way of the Midlands Disaster Relief Fund.”

“We are excited to travel to Creighton and play the Bluejays for a good cause as we begin our season,” said Purdue head coach Matt Painter. “The Omaha area was devastated by tornadoes in late April and we hope this charity game will help provide disaster relief to the region. Creighton is an outstanding program led by an outstanding coach in Coach McDermott and this game will really help us prepare for the season just like the Arkansas charity game helped us a year ago.”

Parts of the Omaha region are still rebuilding after a series of 12 tornadoes on April 26thincluding Nebraska’s first EF-4 tornado since 2014. Additional donations can be made to the United Way of the Midlands Disaster Relief Fund at http://UnitedWayMidlands.org/DisasterRelief.

Creighton finished 25-10 last season and made it to the Sweet 16 for the third time in the last four seasons. Purdue finished 34-5 and reached the team’s first national championship game since 1969.

Overall, the teams have only met once in the regular season: a 91-72 win for the Boilermakers on January 4, 1961.
