Public comment requested on proposed golf course in Homebrook Township, Cass County – Brainerd Dispatch

WALKER – Cass County is seeking public comment on an environmental impact assessment worksheet for the proposed Valkyrie Golf Course in Homebrook Township west of Lake Shore.

The proposed golf course would be located in Homebrook Township, Section 22, Township 135 North, Range 30 West.

The worksheet is not intended to approve or deny a project, but simply serves as a source of information for other permitting and approval decisions, Cass County reported in a news release. The information in the environmental impact assessment worksheet serves two functions: It determines whether an environmental impact statement is required, and it indicates how the project can be modified to reduce its environmental impacts. Such modifications can be imposed by regulatory agencies as permitting conditions.

The worksheet states: “The Valkyrie Golf Course Corporation proposes to construct an 18-hole golf course with additional golf course facilities, including a clubhouse, restroom (hereinafter referred to as ‘The Turn’), driving range and maintenance facilities, on previously undeveloped land in Cass County, Minnesota.”

Comments will be accepted during the 30-day public comment period, which begins August 20 and ends October 19 at 4:30 p.m.

Copies of the Environmental Assessment Worksheet may be viewed at the Cass County Department of Environmental Services in the Cass County Courthouse and at the Kitchigami Regional Library, 212 Park Ave. in Pine River. The worksheet may also be viewed on the Cass County website at www.casscountymn.gov/.

The governing agency is the Cass County Environmental Services Department. Comments should be sent to: Scott Wold, County Planner, Cass County Environmental Services Department, Cass County Courthouse, PO Box 3000, Walker, MN 56484.

Our newsroom occasionally reports under the name “Staff.” The “Staff” name is often used when rewriting basic news briefs from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure that requires little or no reporting. Sometimes this name is used when a story has multiple authors or when the story consists of compiling previously reported news from various sources. When outside sources are used, this is noted in the story.
