Update: 8.40 p.m.: Power supply partially restored after storm

The number of Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers without power dropped to 620 as of 8:40 p.m. Saturday after a storm passed through the region, according to the company’s outage map.

Original report, Saturday, 6:30 p.m.: PG&E customers without power after storm in Shasta County

More than 2,000 customers were without power early Saturday evening after a rain and wind storm swept through Shasta County Saturday afternoon.

The outage was unplanned, according to the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. outage map. As of 6:12 p.m., 2,275 customers in the county were affected by the power outage, according to the agency’s website.

Most of the power outages – 2,102 – were reported in unincorporated Shasta County, according to PG&E. Another 122 outages were reported in Anderson, while 37 occurred in Shasta Lake and 14 in Redding.

According to the National Weather Service, there was a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday, especially before 7 p.m. Winds were expected to be 5 to 10 miles per hour, with light southwest winds expected after midnight, with possible gusts up to 22 miles per hour.

Rainfall is expected to be less than a tenth of an inch, but higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms, the agency said. In Redding, it has continued to rain steadily since 6:30 p.m.
