Post Malone thanks his daughter for helping him out of a “difficult path”

Post Malone doesn’t have to look far to find a reminder of his daughter: her initials “DDP” are tattooed on his forehead. This sweet tribute is just one example of how much fatherhood has affected Malone. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the musician spoke about how his two-year-old daughter, whose full name he has not made public, has influenced his life and career.

“I’ve written a lot of songs (about her),” he said while promoting his upcoming country album. F-1 billionIn “Yours,” he sings about his daughter’s future wedding day with the lines “and she might be wearin’ white/but her first dress, it was pink.”

Becoming a father, he said, “changes your life in the best way ever. And the best part is, she has a wonderful mother.” In fact, the singer went so far as to credit both his daughter and her mother with saving his life. “Four years ago, I was on a rough road,” he said. “It was awful.”

Malone said he was struggling with a period of loneliness at the time: “Getting up, crying, drinking and then living your life, and then when you lie down again, drinking some more and crying.”

Now that he’s made it to the other side, Malone admits he needed that lesson to better understand who he was: “I don’t feel that way anymore, and that’s the most amazing thing.”

Malone, the Rolling Stone once described as someone with the ability to “turn dreamy darkness into Top 40 gold,” Malone is now moving into a new genre. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Malone talked about filming the music video for “Guy For That,” which features country singer Luke Combs. He has also worked with country star Morgan Wallen on the chart hit “I Had Some Help” and with country icon Blake Shelton on “Pour Me a Drink.” The country songs can all be found on his upcoming album.
