Popular fiction series comes to life as a musical at Columbus Children’s Theatre

The Columbus Children’s Theatre (CCT) has brought a beloved underdog story to life – with a unique twist.

“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical” will be performed at the CCT until August 18. The premiere was on August 9.

A musical interpretation of Jeff Kinney’s young adult novel series, Greg’s DiaryThe production centers on protagonist Greg and his quest to become popular with one of the toughest audiences imaginable: middle school students.

The contents of Greg’s cartoon diary are brought to life (and sung about) on the stage of the Columbus Children’s Theatre through everything from tickets to drama among friends and much, much more.

Directed by Brian Gray, the 20-person cast consists mostly of middle school-aged children.

The musical is a story about friendship. I wanted that to be our focus because that’s what Greg realizes: the importance of friendship, of having someone behind you and you having them,” Gray said. “The music is just fantastic and really helps tell the story.”

You can find tickets for “Greg’s Diary – The Musical” here. You can also get a 20 percent discount on the purchase price by using the code CCT20 at the box office.
