Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is being bombarded with criticism on Steam as Activision is in trouble with fans over the cancellation of a highly anticipated mod called H2M. Although it was a popular entry in the series when it was first released in 2016, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is currently at the center of controversy after over 1,000 negative reviews were posted about the title in just one day.
As fans prepared for the release of H2M, a highly anticipated mod for Modern Warfare Remastered which is a remaster of the 2009 Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare Remastered saw a huge influx of players flocking to the title to prepare for the mod’s release on August 16. Given that new Call of Duty Titles are published annually, Modern Warfare Remastered had been relatively dormant in terms of player numbers for many years. While the surge in players was theoretically due to the H2M mod, a sale that allowed Steam users to purchase the shooter at a 50% discount also contributed to the surge.

Unfortunately, Activision came to market just one day before H2M was released. Modern Warfare Remastered Mod with a cease and desist letter. Given the immense popularity of the mod, Call of Duty Fans were not very happy about the sudden closure and decided to check Bombe Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam. Almost immediately, the 2016 shooter received a flood of negative reviews, resulting in a sharp drop in the game’s rating.

In general, the initial Modern Warfare Remastered Reviews were positive, and the shooter achieved a very respectable Metacritic score of 83. However, the discontinuation of H2M led to players boycotting the game and leaving a multitude of negative reviews to express their dissatisfaction with Activision’s handling of the situation.
Many of the negative reviews cite Activision’s lack of desire to release an official remaster of Modern Warfare 2The multiplayer mode was the reason they were excited about the release of H2M. Although the studio released a remastered version of the game’s campaign in 2020, Activision confirmed that it had no plans to release a multiplayer mode for Modern Warfare 2 Remastered.
Steam user chattsveryown, who was one of many users requesting a refund Modern Warfare Remastered after a negative review said it was “lame” that Activision allowed thousands of users to purchase the remaster, only to send the mod developers a cease and desist letter after the game was no longer on sale. Another negative review by user Sad.Sponge said it was clear that Activision only cares about the money and not the players. Although H2M required players to purchase an official copy of Modern Warfare Remastered, it is doubtful that Activision will reverse its decision and allow the mod to be released, despite the massive outcry from the community.
