Popular 15-year-old film from New Jersey director is a box office hit with million and more

There’s a reason some films are called classics.

For “Coraline,” a box office take of over $11 million over the long weekend is just further proof of its staying power.

The Oscar-nominated stop-motion animation film, directed by New Jersey native Henry Selick, premiered in 2009 and grossed $124 million worldwide.

A 15th anniversary revival of “Coraline” by Fathom Events has grossed $11.7 million since the film returned to theaters on Thursday, August 15.

Comscore shows that the film was the fifth-best-grossing film of the weekend with a total of $8.6 million, just behind “Twisters” ($9.8 million). “Coraline” outperformed children’s films “Despicable Me 4” ($6 million) and “Inside Out 2” ($3.2 million).
