Police escort daughter of fallen North Shore police officer on first day of school

(WVUE) – Louisiana State Police officers escorted Harper Baker, daughter of the late Trooper George Baker, to her first day of second grade.

Trooper Baker died in the line of duty on May 24, 2020 as a result of an injury sustained in an accident in Tangipahoa Parish.

Four days earlier, Trooper Baker had deployed spike barriers during a pursuit to stop a fleeing suspect. After successfully deploying the spike barrier and disabling the suspect’s tires, he was struck by a police vehicle involved in the pursuit as he was removing the spike barrier from the road. He was 33 years old and had been a trooper for over two years.

In a social media post, LSP thanked the Baker family and said Harper and her mother “remain valued members of our LSP family. We are committed to standing by them during important events like the first day of school. As we remember Trooper Baker’s ultimate sacrifice in service to his community, we are proud to support Harper as she continues to grow and thrive.”
