OGDEN – Authorities say an elderly man is not expected to survive an electric scooter accident Thursday afternoon.

According to a press release from Ogden City Police, a 76-year-old man was taken to a local hospital with “severe head trauma” after crashing his e-scooter on Washington Boulevard near 22nd Street around 1:16 p.m. yesterday.

The man’s identity has not yet been made public.

According to the press release, the victim was traveling north on his personal e-scooter when, at the same location, a northbound SUV driven by a 33-year-old woman “pulled over” to turn right from Washington Blvd. onto East 22nd St.

“The driver of the SUV failed to see the man on the scooter and caused the man on the scooter to swerve, causing the man to crash the scooter,” the press release said.

As a result of the accident, northbound traffic in the 2200 block of Washington Boulevard was temporarily reduced to one lane.

OPD Lt. John Cox told the Standard-Examiner Friday afternoon that the crash remains under investigation.

Cox was unable to provide any update on the victim’s condition or say whether charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
