PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police believe a 13-year-old girl killed in a shooting in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania over the weekend was probably not the intended target.

Naryah Wright was shot and killed Sunday after shots were fired in the area of South 19th and Derry Street around 12:15 a.m. When police arrived at the scene, they found no victims. However, investigators later learned that the 13-year-old girl had been taken to a local hospital after the gunshot wound. She underwent surgery but later died.

CBS affiliate WHP-TV reported in a press conference on Monday that police said the soon-to-be eighth-grader in the Steelton Highspire school district was probably not the intended target of the shooting.

According to the television station, officials said there was a party taking place in the area.

“We will get through this,” Steelton Mayor Ciera Dent said at a memorial service on Sunday. “Together, we will fight. We will cry. We will mourn. We will be angry, because you have every right to be angry.”

Police are investigating the shooting. It is unclear if there are any suspects or arrests and what led to the shooting. Police said it is possible there was more than one shooter, the television station reported.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call Harrisburg police at 717-558-6900.
