Perfect Draft: 1st in a Yahoo Half-PPR league with 12 teams

Perfect Draft: 1st in a Yahoo Half-PPR league with 12 teams

When fantasy managers select at the top of the 1st round, they are spoiled for choice, although the legitimate options are rather limited. In a half-PPR format like Yahoo, the decision whether to select a running back or a wide receiver to start will set the rest of your draft in motion.

With such a large number of picks between your first two selections, you have a bit of catching up to do with the rest of the league, who have already secured two players, likely one or both at the RB or WR positions.

In this article, I’ll go through my likely favorite available targets each round based on Yahoo ADP via 4for4’s Multi-Site ADP tool and discuss strategy from the first place.

My plan of attack from the 1st position

Roster settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (WR/RB/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DEF, 7 bench spots

The good thing about a half-PPR league is that you can basically start your draft however you want, and you won’t be completely stuck if you don’t have a high-volume pass catcher from the start (like with PPR) or if you lack a more RB-focused approach (like with Standard).

I don’t often go into drafts with hard and fast rules about who I want to take, but it’s imperative that you do your best not to overreact during the ups and downs of the draft. Our ability to select who we believe is the most valuable fantasy asset at No. 1 should give us an immediate idea of what positions we need to attack throughout.

The absence of irrelevant rules (full PPR, points per first down, TE bonus, etc.) in Yahoo’s default settings allows us to attack the Best Player Available (BPA) much more easily.

Read on for a breakdown of my favorite picks through the 10th round and a list of the best targets in the later rounds at each position.
