WEATHER THIS WEEKEND

The weather this weekend should provide ideal conditions for scoring points, with temperatures in the high 25s to start the week, rising to over 30s over the weekend. Wind speeds are expected to stay below 10mph, with very little chance of precipitation. Conditions are expected to remain mostly clear, with some cloud over the course of the week, but no storms are forecast as of Tuesday morning.

FPO FORECAST

  • FPO1 Feature Card: Paige Pierce, Kristin Tattar, Eveliina Salonen and Holyn Handley
  • FPO2 feature card: Henna Blomroos, Missy Gannon, Silva Saarinen and Ohn Scoggins

Here’s a look at the main storylines from this weekend:

1️⃣ Kristin Tattar’s quest for a third consecutive win

Kristin Tattar, the reigning two-time FPO World Champion, is aiming for a historic third consecutive title. If she succeeds, she would be the fourth player in FPO history to achieve the feat. Tattar heads into the World Championships as the highest-ranked player in the world, with five DGPT wins this season and an impressive presence at every event.

2️⃣ Missy Gannon’s first attempt to win the world title

Missy Gannon, who finished second to Tattar at the 2023 World Championships, is looking to take the next step in her career by winning her first World Championship. She currently leads the DGPT World Rankings and won her first FPO major at this year’s US Women’s Championship. A win at the World Championships would cement her position as one of the top players in the sport and add to her successes in 2024.

3️⃣ Holyn Handley’s Momentum

Holyn Handley comes into the World Championships with two consecutive podium finishes in the last two years, marking her as a consistent performer on the biggest stage. She has won her first two DGPT events this season and leads the FPO field with nine podium finishes in 2024. A win at the World Championships would give her the first Major victory of her career.

4️⃣ Without Scoggins’ return from injury

Ohn Scoggins, the reigning four-time FP40 World Champion, is looking to add an FPO title to her achievements after being forced to withdraw from the 2023 World Championship due to injury. With two DGPT wins in 2024 and a near-perfect track record of top-10 finishes, Scoggins is a formidable contender.

5️⃣ Eveliina Salonen is looking for a big win

Eveliina Salonen, who earned her first PDGA Pro Major win in the USA this season at the 2024 Champions Cup, will be looking to make an impression at Worlds. Salonen, who has finished in the top five at Worlds three times, will be aiming for her third career Major win at the event.

MPO FORECAST

  • MPO1 Feature Card: Simon Lizotte, Isaac Robinson, Paul McBeth and Ricky Wysocki
  • MPO2 feature card: Gannon Buhr, Calvin Heimburg, Niklas Anttila and Anthony Barela

Here’s a look at the main storylines from this weekend:

1️⃣ Gannon Buhrs search for history

Gannon Buhr, 19, is looking to become the youngest MPO World Champion in the last 40 years after Sam Ferrans won in 1984 at age 16. Buhr is already a two-time Junior World Champion and has two MPO Major titles and five Elite Series victories in 2024. His dominance in this season’s four-round events could give him an advantage in this five-round World Championship format.

2️⃣ Ricky Wysocki’s search for a 7th major

Ricky Wysocki is seeking his first Major win since winning the 2017 Worlds and has his sights set on his 7th MPO Major title. Despite his recent injury issues, Wysocki has claimed three DGPT wins in the last two months and recently claimed the DGPT European Points title following the final European Points Series event of the year. His late-season push could be the key to ending a streak of 19 consecutive winless PDGA Pro Majors.

3️⃣ Paul McBeth’s search for No. 7

Paul McBeth, a six-time world champion, is making history himself with his seventh world title. A win would put McBeth level with Ken Climo, who has the most PDGA Pro Major titles in MPO history with 18. Although McBeth has yet to win a DGPT event in 2024, he has proven time and time again that he can deliver when the most is on the line. Combine that with his efforts in shaping the New London course, and there’s no limit to what he could accomplish this week.
