Patriots roster cuts tracker: Full player list released

Patriots roster cuts tracker: Full player list released

With the preseason over, Eliot Wolf and Jerod Mayo now face the task of reducing the Patriots’ roster to 53 players by 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

That requires more than three dozen roster changes, and the Patriots’ think tank got things rolling Monday morning after they suffered a 20-10 loss to the Commanders in their final preseason game.

Here’s a complete breakdown of all the moves New England has made so far. Everything here was reported and/or confirmed by MassLive’s Patriots team of Karen Guregian, Mark Daniels and Chris Mason, unless otherwise noted:

CUT: LB Steele Chambers: The Patriots brought in the undrafted free agent this offseason. Ja’Whaun Bentley, Jahlani Tavai and Raekwon McMillan quickly established themselves at the top of the rankings.

CUT: DL Sam Roberts: The 2022 sixth-round pick had some good moments this summer but fell behind Jeremiah Pharms and Trysten Hill as a defensive tackle. He could be a candidate for the practice squad.

CUT: WR Kawaan Baker: The Patriots had strong competition at receiver this offseason. Baker was clearly behind Tyquan Thornton, Kayshon Boutte, Jalean Reagor and rookies Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker.

CUT: CB Azizi Hearn: The physical cornerback could once again be a candidate for the practice squad. Hearn had some good moments in training camp, but a lackluster season finale undoubtedly hurt his chances of making the roster.

CUT: TE La’Michael Pettway: Stuck in the rankings behind veteran Mitchell Wilcox and seventh-round pick Jaheim Bell, Pettway faced an uphill battle in the race for the third tight end spot.

CUT: LS Tucker Addington: Joe Cardona will be New England’s long snapper for the 10th consecutive season as the Patriots decided to part ways with Addington on Monday morning. The backup long snapper was signed in the middle of training camp and felt more like a backup than competition for Cardona, becoming Wolf’s first to be cut after the finale.
