Passenger numbers at Tulum Airport exceed half a million in the first eight months

Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in the Caribbean resort town of Tulum has welcomed over half a million passengers since opening on December 1, 2023, according to Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama.

“But what is really impressive is the trajectory of this growth,” Lezama emphasized.

In March, the month It opened its first international routeTulum Airport received over 5,000 international passengers. The following month, the number increased tenfold to 53,000 and in July, Tulum Airport received over 88,000 international passengers.

Overall, including domestic and international flights, the airport saw an increase in flight operations from 316 in December to 1,040 in July, equivalent to approximately 35 flights per day.

“In just four months, the number of international passengers has increased 16-fold and the forecast is fabulous,” said Lezama, adding that if this trend continues, the airport could end the year with a total passenger volume of 1.4 million domestic and international passengers.

The increase in international passenger traffic makes Tulum Airport the 10th Terminal with the highest international passenger volume among Mexican airports, with a market share of 0.7%. It is also the airport in Quintana Roo with the second highest international passenger volume (behind Cancún), surpassing older airports such as Cozumel and Playa del Carmen.

Currently, three domestic airlines and five international airlines operate from Tulum Airport. International destinations from Tulum include Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles and Miami in the USA, Montreal and Toronto in Canada and Panama City in Panama.
