Panhellenic Bid Day will be held on Saturday, August 17th at 10 a.m. at the Chi Omega Greek Theater and will be streamed live on the Greek Life Facebook page.

“We look forward to welcoming new members to our University of Arkansas Greek Life community,” said Parice S. Bowser, associate provost for Greek Life and assistant dean of students. “It’s truly special that we have the opportunity to bring all the excitement to social media and broadcast it live on Facebook for family and friends who can’t attend.”

More than 2,138 women participated in recruitment last week. Potential new members will meet Saturday morning at the Chi Omega Greek Theater to receive offers for their new organization.

“Bid Day is truly the best day of the year. When these young women find their second home at the University of Arkansas, they begin a new chapter in their lives,” said Katherine Ford, Panhellenic President. “These women join groups full of other young women who offer encouragement and support, making the transition from home to college life so much easier.”

Greek Life is also excited to welcome the 12th sorority Alpha Phi to the Panhellenic Council. Ford said, “We will be announcing more information about membership in the coming days. It is such an exciting time to join the Greek community at the University of Arkansas!”

As is typical this time of year, it will be hot and humid. Greek Life staff encourages prospective new members and their attending family and friends to dress appropriately for the weather and to stay hydrated.

In addition, guests may gather on the sorority lawns after the offerings are distributed in the theater. However, only active and new members are allowed to enter the sorority houses.

“Whether it’s at the Greek Theater or on Maple Street, we want it to be an enjoyable but also safe experience. Every effort should be made to ensure the safety of our community,” Bowser said.

According to the U of A Police Department, there will be road closures during the Bid Day festivities between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Specifically, the following roads will be closed to vehicle traffic:

  • Maple and Lindell
  • Douglas and Leverett
  • Douglas and Oakland
  • Douglas and Storer
  • Douglas and Whitham
  • Arkansas and Maple
  • Maple and Wilson
  • West and Lafayette
  • Vandeventer and Maple

“We are beyond excited and ready to hand out the bids on Saturday morning!” added Bowser. “We have 11 amazing, nationally award-winning chapters that continue to make a huge difference at the University of Arkansas, so we expect this to be one of the best Bid Day events ever.”
