Pancol selected for Comeback Player of the Year award


Wide receiver Eli Pancol, a graduate student at Duke University, has secured a spot on the list of candidates for the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year Award, the College Sports Communicators (CSC) in partnership with The Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl announced Tuesday.

DURHAM, NC – Wide receiver studying at Duke Eli Pancol A place on the candidate list for the Comeback Player of the Year Award 2024 was won by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) in cooperation with The Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl were announced on Tuesday.

Since 2018, the award has recognized college football student-athletes who have overcome injuries, illnesses or other circumstances.

Pancol, a native of Pendleton, Indiana, missed the entire 2023 season due to a lower-body injury sustained during fall practice. In 44 career games, 11 starts, he has collected 70 pass catches for 912 yards (13.02 yards per catch) with five touchdowns and added seven runs for 40 yards (5.71) with two scores. In addition, he has more than two pass catches in 22 games and more than 20 yards passing in 21 contests.

At the end of each season, three college football student-athletes are honored as winners of the Comeback Player of the Year Award at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, as voted on by a panel of college football writers, editors and sports information directors.


Duke’s opening game of the 2024 season is scheduled for Friday, August 30, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. against Elon at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.
