Palworld Dev CEO admits next game could be big but prefers indie ideas, so no Quad-A-Skull-and-Bones mayhem here

When Palworld When it first launched in January, no one could have predicted how famous it would become. The $30 title reached 25 million players in its first month and established itself as one of the biggest indie gaming success stories of recent years.

The success of the title has brought the developer Pocketpair a lot of money. However, instead of creating a AAA chaos like Skull and BonesThe studio’s CEO believes that small indie titles are the right way to go.

Palworld CEO says Pocketpair’s next game won’t be a big-budget affair

In a brand new interviewPocketpairs CEO Takuro Mizobe spoke about various topics in the gaming industry, such as the use of AI and other technological advances in the future of Palworld and other games.

Mizobe was also questioned about his earlier statements that Palworld was created with the revenue from the studio’s previous game. When asked if the same could happen with the studio’s next game, the CEO explained that the studio did not properly “structured” to handle the scope of a game that Palworld profits.

If we were to develop our next game based on this revenue, as we have done in the past, not only would the scale exceed AAA, but we would also not be able to keep up with the maturity of our organization, or rather, we are not structured for something like that at all.

It is clear that unlike Ubisoft, which gave us one of the worst games of the decade, Mizobe and his team are not interested in a game of such grand proportions.

The studio doesn’t have anything it wants to do with that kind of budget and would rather develop new indie titles.

The studio is not finished yet with Palworld either. The game is still in Early Access and the developers are constantly adding new content to the game. The players even got an entire island with a PvP arenaLet’s hope the studio can carry this momentum forward when the game is fully released.

These developers love indie games

Not only the studio’s CEO, but community manager John Buckley has also shown his love for indie development by encouraging players to spend as much money as possible on indie games. Just like Mizobe, Buckley wants the indie sector to thrive.

Mizobe’s approach to developing more indie games instead of a major sequel to ‘Pokemon “with Guns” is not something we see often. Most studios want to get bigger with each release.

With the hit game, the studio has already proven that it doesn’t need a big budget to produce a highly polished gaming experience that could win over millions. The developers’ strategy is already working, so it’s not surprising that they want to stay true to their original vision.
