Oswego County Scarecrow Contest at the Family Fall Festival

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County is now accepting entries for a scarecrow contest to be held during the Agriculture Society of Oswego County Family Fall Festival at the Oswego County Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek, NY. The contest runs from 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 4 through 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 6. Entries will be accepted on Friday, October 4 between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Awards will be announced on Sunday, October 6 at 1:30 p.m.

Scarecrows should be family-friendly and completely original. They should be between 4 and 7 feet tall and can be placed outdoors on a grassy area. Participants will set up their scarecrow and must bring a pole, chair, base or other items to support and anchor it. All building materials are the responsibility of the participants.

Scarecrows will be judged on originality, workmanship and overall appearance. The contest is open to all clubs, groups, organizations, businesses, families and individuals. The Agriculture Society of Oswego County and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County assume no responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged items.

There are five categories in which people can participate:

  1. Individual youth (12 years and younger)
  2. Individual young people (13-18 years)
  3. More than 1 young person (of any age)
  4. Family
  5. Adult group/club or company.

Please register in advance by Tuesday, October 2nd.
