Orlando woman reunites with rescue workers who saved her life after devastating accident

An Orlando woman’s life changed forever after she was involved in a serious accident in February. She is still recovering from her injuries, but thanks to social media, she will soon meet the people who saved her life.

“I’m still in the healing phase,” said Rebecca Yochem, who is recovering from an accident that occurred in Orange County on February 28.

“I was just driving and then I stopped,” she said.

The accident occurred on South Semoran Boulevard near Antique Oaks Circle. Yochem says she was driving home from work when it happened, and the impact was so severe that she was thrown from her vehicle.

“The car is completely wrecked. The woman is lying on the street right now. I’m just trying to help her,” said an emergency caller from the scene of the accident.

“I remember waking up and I was lying on the street,” Yochem recalled. “I was lying on the ground and I saw that I was on the street and then I passed out again. The next thing I remember is I was in the back of the ambulance.”

Her injuries were severe.

“I suffered eight broken ribs on my left side. My pelvis was broken in two places,” she explained. “My vertebrae, L4 and L5, were broken, but my spine was intact. I had abrasions on my left leg that went down to my foot. My fifth metatarsal bone was broken and I had a heel avulsion on the right side.”

Despite her serious injuries, Yochem survived thanks to first responders from Orange County Fire Station 66.

“To be honest, I never thought I would be able to do this,” Yochem said. “It really puts life in perspective. You realize how fragile life is, especially when you’re put in a situation like this.”

Yochem wanted to thank the people who helped her in those critical moments. On July 21, she posted a TikTok in hopes of reaching first responders at the scene of the accident that night.

“I don’t know if this is even possible, if they’re even on TikTok or social media,” she said in the video, hoping someone could put her in touch with them. “If someone could get this to them so I can visit them one day.”

Fortunately, her TikTok appeal was successful. Her emotional message reached the Orange County Fire Department at Station 66. Now she will be reunited with the team that made a difference in her life.

“I want them to know that they changed my life,” Yochem said.

Yochem told FOX 35 she is determined to continue her recovery and looks forward to personally thanking the first responders who saved her.
