Orange County launches campaign sign recycling campaignSigns are converted into cleaner energy sources

Orange County, Florida – With the primary election now over, Orange County is encouraging residents to recycle campaign signs instead of throwing them in the trash.

In partnership with the City of Winter Park, the City of Orlando and the League of Women Voters, Orange County is collecting campaign signs to be used as a clean energy source.

“The intent is to keep these single-use signs out of the landfill,” said Aimee Krivan, pollution prevention program coordinator for the county’s Department of Environmental Protection. “We’ve found a way to give these signs a second life.”

The signs are sent to NuCycle, where they are converted into Enviro-Fuelcubes®, which are used by the cement and electricity industries as a coal substitute. In 2022, the first year of the program, 11,140 pounds of campaign signs were kept out of the landfill.

Wood and metal frames must be removed from signs before donation. Donations can be dropped off from August 21 to September 1 at the following locations:
