LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – Temperatures will remain below average Friday, but this weekend will be hot and humid. Although the chance of rain lingers, no day or night over the next seven days looks like there will be much chance of rain.
Friday will be partly to mostly cloudy and mild with a 20% chance of isolated to widely scattered showers. A few isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible in parts of western Nebraska and the Panhandle, especially in the evenings. The main threat will be heavy hail and damaging winds. The threat of tornadoes is very low. Winds should be from the southeast at 8 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph possible. Lows will be in the 60s and highs in the 70s to 80s.
This weekend will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy, hot and humid. There is a 20 percent chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms, but most of Saturday and Sunday will likely be dry. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible in parts of western Nebraska and the Panhandle. The main threat will be heavy hail and damaging winds. Highs will be in the high 80s, with possible heat index values of 100 to 110.
The first few days of next week should also be hot and humid before a couple of cold fronts move through and cool us off. One of these should last through Sunday evening into Monday, the other on Thursday. Temperatures could be below average again in the second half of next week.
