On the way to an epic downfall?

On the way to an epic downfall?

Depending on who you listen to, the Montana real estate market is either about to crash (good news for buyers) or it is holding steady (good news for sellers).

Real estate in the Treasure State has been a hot topic over the past few years. We’ve watched as prices on houses, townhomes and condos have skyrocketed beyond what the average Montanan can afford. Those of us hoping the market will recover on its own have had to wait a long time for that to happen… and we’re still waiting.

So what’s the real estate market like in Montana? Homes used to sell like crazy, especially in places like Bozeman, but what’s it like now? Where’s the hotspot in Montana?

WalletHub has released its list of the best real estate markets for 2024 and Montana residents may be surprised by the results.

Which cities in Montana made the list of best real estate markets?

Was it Bozeman? Missoula? How about Kalispell or Great Falls? None of these Montana cities made the list, in fact, no Montana city made the 2024 list, which may come as a bit of a shock to many locals, but also good news for those who are tired of all the new arrivals.

Where are people moving?

By the numbers, Texas is a popular place to live, with the Lone Star State making the top 10 four times. As someone who has lived in Texas, I understand the appeal, as there are no state taxes, homes are inexpensive compared to Montana prices, winters are mild, and roads are well maintained.

However, it is hot and, well, full of Texans.

So could these numbers mean that we are seeing the beginning of a change here in Montana? Is it possible that housing prices will continue to fall, giving the average Montanan a better chance of owning a home?

One can only hope, and I hope.
