On the first day of bad weather, dangerous heat threatens again in the Phoenix area

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — It’s another First Alert Weather Day in the Valley with dangerously hot temperatures. A heat warning is in effect until 8 p.m.

Morning temperatures today will be above 30 degrees Celsius and may rise to as high as 45 degrees. That’s seven degrees more than normal for this time of year and just one degree less than today’s record.

A strong ridge of high pressure, which has caused an unusually hot start to the week, will move east over the next few days. This will cause temperatures to drop and allow moisture to penetrate from the south and southeast.

From this evening through Thursday night, the valley is likely to experience storms again. Storm chances are also increasing for Wednesday and Thursday across the state’s highlands. Strong winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning strikes are the biggest dangers.

Dry air returns to the state over the weekend. Storm dangers remain in the higher elevations, but the Valley looks set to remain dry for now, with highs near normal at around 40 degrees Celsius.
