On Kids Prevention Day, families learn more about drug abuse prevention

POMEROY, Ohio (WTAP) – The Meigs County Fair is in full swing, offering families the opportunity to spend quality time together enjoying rides and fried food.

One event, however, aimed to educate children about substance abuse and ways to prevent it. Kids Prevention Day featured a variety of organizations that offer resources on substance abuse, mental health, and safety.

The event was initiated by Robin Harris, Executive Director of Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services, who brought it to the fair board, which decided to partner with community stakeholders to continue the event each year.

The event included entertainment from DJ Rockin’ Reggie, yoga with Jean Anne Myers, a concert by 10 Talents and a raffle for major prizes. 350 gift bags were distributed to the children in attendance.

Robin Harris said the event gives families the opportunity to discover resources they may not have known existed.

The Meigs County Fair runs through August 17th.
