100 years ago: 1924

TE Wright was appointed river terminal agent for Vicksburg. • RE Price and his sons returned from a road trip to Memphis. • Clive Ernwine wrote to the Vicksburg Evening Post from Colorado.

90 years ago: 1934

Ruth Arrigh of Natchez was a guest of Mrs. SS Patterson. • Mrs. Benson Martin left to join her husband in New Orleans. • Mrs. RC Wilkerson visited Shreveport with her sister.

80 years ago: 1944

Mrs. OF Buzhardt returned with her sons from a visit to Wilmington, NC. • Judge WW Ramsey was invited to address a group of business men and professionals in Hattiesburg. • Trudy Marshall starred in “Ladies of Washington” at the Strand Theatre.

70 years ago: 1954

JC Hopkins died. • A memorial service was held for Walter Collins. • Dr. and Mrs. A. Street returned from a vacation in Highlands, NC. • Mrs. Paul Barclift was in Birmingham visiting relatives.

60 years ago: 1964

Yokena Presbyterian Church celebrated its 80th anniversary. • May Ratcliff visited relatives in Baton Rouge. • Ann Gilfoil was on Sicily Island, Louisiana, visiting Barbara Gilbert.

50 years ago: 1974

Joseph Aaron Griffith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Griffith, celebrated his first birthday. • The Warren County Property Owners Association notified the Warren County Board of Supervisors that it opposes a proposed industrial park and the issuance of a $4 million bond. • Mr. and Mrs. Ray Atwood Jr. announced the birth of their daughter, Julie Marie. • George Wolf was honored for 20 years of service to Westinghouse.

40 years ago: 1984

Gasoline prices in Vicksburg were among the highest in the country. Unleaded gasoline cost $1.24 per gallon. • Retired Brigadier General Herbert D. Vogel, founder and first director of the Waterways Experiment Station, died. • Holly Michelle Goldman celebrated her third birthday.

30 years ago: 1994

The mayor and city councilors appointed a nine-member board for the Southern Culture Center in the former St. Francis Xavier buildings.

20 years ago: 2004

Clinton B. LeSueur, the Republican candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, was scheduled to speak at the party’s national convention at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

10 years ago: 2014

Carr Central Apartments was unveiled with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. • Callaway presented a big challenge for the Vikings as the Gators looked to bounce back from their loss at the Red Carpet Bowl.
