Cael Krushnowski caught three of TJ DiMattia’s four touchdown passes on Friday night and then added some crucial plays late in the game to secure Old Forge’s 28-27 victory over West Scranton in the opening game of the non-league high school football league at Scranton Memorial Stadium.

Krushnowski caught a 43-yard touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter and Isiah Rodriguez scored his fourth extra point to erase a 27-21 deficit.

West Scranton was in a dangerous situation, but Krushnowski intercepted a pass on fourth-and-10 from the 13-yard line and then ran for a first down to kill the remaining time.

The Invaders begin their third season under former Old Forge quarterback Jake Manetti.

Dayron Groves carried the ball 16 times for 195 yards and three touchdowns for West Scranton.

Groves scored on a 44-yard run to secure a 6-0 lead after one quarter.

Old Forge took a 14-6 halftime lead when DiMattia found Krushnowski with a 33-yard touchdown pass and Frankie Pero with a 28-yard touchdown pass.

West Scranton took the lead for the second of three when Groves ran around left end for a 49-yard touchdown, then took a pitch to his right and ran 74 yards for another touchdown.

Krushnowski converted a short pass into a 45-yard touchdown to make the score 21-21 early in the fourth quarter.

Shamier Lyons stretched the ball across the goal line to complete a 6-yard run and give the Invaders a 27-21 lead with 8:12 left.

Krushnowski finished the game with 22 carries for 100 yards and four catches for 127 yards.

DiMattia threw a pass for 205 yards.
