Old Forester has announced the highly anticipated return of its most sought-after varietal, Birthday Bourbon.
This year, the bourbon is 12 years old and has an alcohol content of 107 proof. Consumers can secure the chance to purchase this rare bottle through a national sweepstakes.
The liquid was selected by Master Distiller Emeritus Chris Morris and Master Taster Melissa Rift with the assistance of Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo and came from a total of 209 barrels.
“Twelve years of aging in Warehouses G and L have produced a rich and unique flavor profile that is perfect for this coveted annual release,” says Trigo.
Old Forester releases this limited edition, vintage-dated bottle every September 2nd to celebrate the birthday of brand founder George Garvin Brown. (Note: Birthday Bourbon is not will be sold at the distillery on September 2nd.)
Old Forester Birthday Bourbon will be available through an online sweepstakes running August 15-21 on OldForester.com. Anyone who wins a chance to purchase a bottle through this sweepstakes must purchase and pick up the bottle at the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville between September 5, 2024 and December 14, 2024 (see Official Rules for full terms).
The suggested retail price for each bottle of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon (750 ml) is $199.99. Limit one bottle per customer per credit card.
“There is no better way to celebrate our founder and our long history than by getting our rarest variety into the hands of bourbon lovers across the country,” says Rift.
The annual edition of Birthday Bourbon is also sold in retail stores nationwide.
The 2024 version’s nose features apricot and apple with spice cake and buttercream frosting with undertones of sweet tobacco and warm oak, the distillery reports. The palate brings juicy fruit with toasted oak and warm cinnamon spice before caramel apple and a blend of sweet tobacco, ground cinnamon and cocoa arrive on the table on the finish.
This follows the release of the 10 year old bourbon whiskey Old Forester 1924.
