The winners of the competition can purchase their bottle of Birthday Bourbon at the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville.
The 2024 edition of Old Forester Birthday Bourbon was aged for 12 years and bottled at 53.5% ABV. The whisky was selected by Master Distiller Emeritus Chris Morris and Master Taster Melissa Rift with the assistance of Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo and comes from a total of 209 barrels.
“Twelve years of aging in Warehouses G and L have produced a rich and unique flavor profile that is perfect for this coveted annual release,” said Trigo.
Old Forester is running a nationwide prize draw to buy a bottle from August 15-21 on the brand’s website. Winners must purchase their bottle from the Old Forester Distillery between September 5 and December 14.
The whiskey will also be available at retail locations nationwide for $200. On the nose, it displays apricot, apple, spice cake and sweet tobacco, while on the palate it offers toasted oak and cinnamon spice.
Every year, Old Forester releases a Birthday Bourbon in honor of founder George Garvin Brown’s birthday on September 2nd. However, the brand notes that no bottles will be available at the distillery on that day.
“There is no better way to celebrate our founder and our long history than by getting our rarest variety into the hands of bourbon lovers across the country,” said Rift.
The distillery recently released a rum-infused bourbon as part of its experimental 117 series.
