OIC marks World Humanitarian Day and calls for global unity in tackling urgent crises

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) celebrated World Humanitarian Day together with the international community on Sunday, paying tribute to the courage and sacrifices of humanitarian workers.

This day honors those who risk their lives and well-being to save and protect others in some of the world’s most difficult environments.

This year’s World Humanitarian Day highlights the most pressing humanitarian challenges across the Islamic world and the need for coordinated and intensified efforts to address the multifaceted impacts of crises.

The OIC reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to promoting and coordinating collective Islamic humanitarian initiatives based on Islamic principles and in accordance with the Charter and resolutions of the Organization aimed at responding to crises and developing effective mechanisms to that end.

The OIC expressed its gratitude to Member States, donors and partners and acknowledged their significant contribution in alleviating the negative impact of the crises on affected communities, including those hosting refugees.

In an effort to mobilise further resources, the OIC announced a donor conference for 26 October to support refugees and displaced persons in the Sahel and Lake Chad regions.

The organization called on international partners to join this joint effort to improve the situation of the millions of people affected by humanitarian crises in these crisis areas.
