Observations from Day 16 of Ravens training camp: Isaiah Likely catches everything, Jackson hits deep

The Baltimore Ravens’ first of five consecutive practices began Sunday in cooler temperatures at the Under Armour Performance Center. Here are my latest observations.

Isaiah probably catches everything

Throughout training camp, tight end Isaiah Likely has frequently been a playmaker; today he was on a whole different level. Lamar Jackson repeatedly found Likely in both 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 games, and their chemistry was on full display. Twice Jackson connected with Likely for a touchdown, while several other passes gained yards and moved the chains. Head coach John Harbaugh said Likely put together a “fantastic training camp.”

“Another great day. He caught a lot of long balls and was spectacular with his route details,” Harbaugh said. “I think the timing was fantastic. He’s just a very special athlete.”

Jackson’s best day with much success

The long ball has been the crux of Jackson’s criticisms and something the Ravens have worked to improve in training camp. Today, Jackson delivered his best long pass practice. Thanks to his connections with Likely, Jackson hit wide receiver Zay Flowers on the run at the line of scrimmage for a sizable lead. Later in practice, he gave wide receiver Sean Ryan a 50-50 ball to cornerback Marlon Humphrey and Ryan delivered.

Unfortunately, Jackson’s best long ball in training camp was a drop from Nelson Agholor. On the fourth play of practice, Jackson sent a rainbow across the field as Agholor gained several yards of distance from his defender in the middle of the field. Jackson’s pass landed with Agholor on the run, but he couldn’t secure the ball. As the ball hit the turf, Jackson’s helmet also fell to the ground in frustration.

During the final part of the 11-on-11 situation, Jackson again found Agholor deep in the deep end, who was unable to catch the pass on the sideline. Jackson again expressed his frustration.
