Obama and Pritzker are keynote speakers on second day of DNC – NBC Chicago

The first day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago featured passionate speeches from some of the party’s rising stars, and the evening capped off with an emotional passing of the torch speech by President Joe Biden at the Democratic National Convention.

Biden spoke not only about his own legacy but also about Vice President Kamala Harris’ candidacy as his successor in the Oval Office. He also sharply criticized former President Donald Trump on many counts, including his efforts to sow doubt about the outcome of the 2020 election and his foreign policy positions.

Elsewhere, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave a speech praising Harris as a trailblazer, while Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez praised Democrats as friends of working Americans and portrayed Trump as an unworldly billionaire who cares more about money than people.

Musical performances by Mickey Guyton and Jason Isbell rounded off the program.

Who is scheduled to speak on Tuesday?

The highlight of the speaker list is former President Barack Obama, who will give a speech at the party convention in his hometown of Chicago.

According to official information, former First Lady Michelle Obama will also give a speech at the party convention.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, who was Harris’ running mate, is also expected to speak, as is Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

What is the topic of the day?

The theme of Tuesday’s edition of the convention is “A Bold Vision for America’s Future,” focusing on Harris and Walz’s platform and their vision for the path forward for the United States.

Will the program options cut on Monday get a second chance?

Several speeches were shortened to accommodate President Joe Biden’s address, including a musical performance by James Taylor and speeches by Representatives Grace Meng and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

It is not known whether the trio will be included in the program again.

At least five people were arrested by Chicago police after sections of security fencing along the north security perimeter near the United Center were removed Monday night, just hours before the Democratic National Convention was actually set to begin Monday night, Bennett Haeberle of NBC 5 Investigates reports.

Will there be more protests on Tuesday?

Protesters briefly breached a barrier near the United Center, resulting in several arrests, but Chicago police were able to quickly secure the area.

Authorities said the break-in caused a brief delay in the arrival of some delegates at the United Center. Additional protests are planned for Tuesday at both Union Park and Park 578, both of which are near the United Center grounds.
