NYT Connections today (Game No. 445) – the answers
The answers to today’s Connections Game No. 445 are…
- YELLOW: PIANO TYPES ELECTRONIC, GRAND PIANO, PLAYER, PIANO
- GREEN: DEEM CONSIDER, COUNT, JUDGE, TAKE INTO ACCOUNT
- BLUE: US COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES BROWN, HERZOG, HOWARD, SMITH
- PURPLE: SECOND NAMES IN COMPANIES WITH AMP SIGNS GAMBLE, JOHNSON, NOBLE, YOUNG
- My rating: Hard
- My result: Fail
Yeah, OK, that was just too hard for me. This is my fifth connection failure in the last 12 days, which either means I’m not very good at it or the game has gotten harder recently. I really have no complaints here, other than the blue “university” group being very, very hard for non-US players – like me. I discovered BROWN and DUKE, but didn’t know any other options and just guessed blindly until I lost.
Purple was even harder. Again, I spotted a few options in JOHNSON (& Johnson) and (Proctor &) GAMBLE, but NOBLE and YOUNG… no chance. I now realize that NOBLE must be related to BARNES &, but I’m still no wiser about YOUNG.
To make matters worse, even yellow and green were pretty tough. I haven’t lost a single Wordle in nearly 1,000 games, but Connections is a different story – this game is hardcore.

What is NYT Connections?
NYT Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games from the New York Times. You have to find groups of four items that have something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow is a bit harder, blue is often quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
The upside is that you don’t technically have to solve the final puzzle, as you can solve it by process of elimination. Plus, you’re allowed to make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little wiggle room.
It is a bit more complicated than Wordle, however, and has many ways to trick you. For example, watch out for homophones and other wordplay that could obscure the answers.
It can be played for free on desktop or mobile via the NYT Games site.
