Northwest Harris County father searches for missing 16-year-old daughter believed to be in NYC

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Avery Baker, 16, was last seen at her father’s house on Thursday, August 15.

“At first I was angry, but pretty quickly it turned into fear and panic,” said her father, Anthony Baker.

Baker told KPRC 2 he believes his daughter may have traveled to New York City to visit a man she met online after family and friends shared a screenshot of her Delta airline ticket from IAH to New York’s LaGuardia Airport.

“We were able to contact the airline and they confirmed that she got on the plane,” Baker said. “I just found out that there’s this thing that between the ages of 15 and 18, you don’t need ID or consent or parental consent or anything like that. That kind of blows my mind.”

Baker said he also discovered pictures of the man she was believed to be with, but did not know his name, age or exact whereabouts.

“We’ve been in touch with the NYPD. They’re supposedly working with Harris County to get as much information as possible so someone will notice or say something,” Baker said.

Baker filed a missing person report with the Harris County 5th District Police Office, which is investigating the case.

He asks anyone who has information about his daughter’s whereabouts to come forward.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Missing Persons Unit at 713-755-7427 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.

KPRC 2’s Bill Barajas will have more on this story tonight at 10.
