Nick Chubb is reportedly expected to open the season on the Cleveland Browns’ PUP list

Nick Chubb is reportedly expected to open the season on the Cleveland Browns’ PUP list

The Cleveland Browns’ 53-man roster will take shape over the next 24 hours, and the first version of that roster will not include Nick Chubb.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns are expected to begin the season with Chubb remaining on the physically unable to perform list, a classification Chubb has held throughout training camp as he continues his rehab from the gruesome knee injury he suffered in Week 2 last season.

Because Chubb is on the team’s PUP list to begin the season, he will have to miss at least the first four games of the regular season, during which time he will not be part of the 53-man roster. That would make him eligible for a potential return in Week 5 against the Washington Commanders, but the Browns could still keep Chubb out longer.

One of the biggest differences between the PUP list and IR in the NFL is that there is no 21-day window for players on the PUP list to work out before being placed on the active roster.
