New version of “The Jungle Book” comes to downtown Orlando

ORLANDO, Florida. – Modern Theatricals’ “The Jungle Book” is coming to downtown Orlando, but it’s not the story you’d normally expect.

Expanding the world of Rudyard Kipling’s classic fairy tale, this sequel stars the tiger Shir Khan and the peacock Mora.

The show highlights the power of determination, forgiveness and acceptance.

Helen Tom plays Mora. She said that in order to identify with her character, she had to develop pride, elegance and a sense of drama.

“Like Mora, I appreciate the beauty in life and enjoy expressing myself creatively. Whether it’s through colorful costumes or graceful movements, playing Mora allows me to channel my inner diva,” said Tom.

She said there was one part of the show that she was particularly excited to share with the audience.

“Without giving too much away, there is a part of the show that is truly magical and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it! It will absolutely captivate the audience!”

Donald Spencer is the show’s director, writer and designer. He is known in Central Florida for his unique and haunting theatrical revivals such as “Down the Rabbit Hole” and “Lost Boy.”

Spencer said the pandemic forced Modern Theatralicals to take a step back for a few years.

“During this time, we have been focused on honing our craft, exploring new ideas and planning our next big project. ‘The Jungle Book’ represents our big return to the stage because it embodies all the creativity, passion and hard work we have put into the company while we were away,” said Spencer.

Planning for The Jungle Book began about a year ago; the cast and crew came together about six months ago.

“Audiences can look forward to a truly immersive experience that brings The Jungle Book to life in a way they’ve never seen before. We’ve incorporated live music, circus arts, larger-than-life puppets and stunning costumes to transport viewers to the heart of the jungle. The performances are powerful, the narrative is both faithful and innovative, and the overall experience is designed to be emotionally resonant and visually captivating,” Spencer explained.
