New list of Philadelphia Phillies young players announced

New list of Philadelphia Phillies young players announced

The Philadelphia Phillies, like other teams, have updated their top 30 MLB pipeline list, but there hasn’t been much upheaval in the process. Aside from losing players like George Klassen during the trade deadline, their system is strong enough that the transfer of a highly regarded prospect didn’t change the top five.

The first notable change in the top five was the loss of right-handed pitcher Mick Abel, but he only dropped to No. 6, so you can’t really call him a drop-off. He’s had a rough time this season in Triple-A, striking out less than one batter per inning and his walk rate has gone up. He’s still in good form, so there’s a lot to be excited about.

A new addition to Philadelphia’s top five was promising catcher Eduardo Tait. The 17-year-old Tait has made it to Single-A and is holding his own at such a young age. With nine home runs and an OPS of .843 in 64 games between the two leagues, hitting like that is impressive, especially considering he’s a catcher.

Two of the 2024 draft picks made their debut in the Phillies’ top ten roster. Dante Nori, their first-round pick, comes in at number seven. Nori was one of the best high school students of his class, but since he is only 19, his advanced age scared off some teams.

Nevertheless, he has above-average hitting ability and is a good runner and defender. So far, he has scored 1 of 4 hits in Single-A.

Griffin Burkholder, a 2024 second-round pick, comes in at Nori at No. 8. Burkholder is an above-average runner but still needs to work on his swing.

The biggest mover on the preseason list was right-handed pitcher Jean Cabrera, who went from unranked to No. 13. The 22-year-old has made it to Double-A and is having a fantastic season. In 14 starts, he has 102 strikeouts and a 3.53 ERA while throwing 97 innings.

Griff McGarry, on the other hand, has dropped ten spots from his original 11th place this year. The 25-year-old has struggled to throw strikes this season. In 23.2 innings, he walked 23 batters but had 32 strikeouts. Unlike last season, however, he has not yet been in the starting lineup this season.

When a system has elite players like Aidan Miller, Andrew Painter and Justin Crawford, it’s hard to get to the top of the list. Still, many players are making a name for themselves in the strong Phillies system.
